Dr. Reyes giving a lecture
on getting booster vaccines

Attended by 126 people in total, the fifth and the final installment of Bayanihan Webinar Series was held on 27 June entitled “Vaccine Updates” where experts shared tips on getting booster vaccines for different types of maladies amid the COVID-19 crisis.

Launched on 30 May to inform the public on matters related to the novel coronavirus and beyond, Bayanihan Webinar is a five-time webinar series organized by AMDA Philippines, AMSA Philippines (Asian Medical Students’ Association Philippines) and *other partner organizations.

In the seminar, occupational physician Dr. Lemuel Delos Reyes talked about diseases that can be prevented by immunization, while touching on the number of annual death from such preventable ailments worldwide, as well as pneumococcal pneumonia which can also be avoided by vaccination. Dr. Reyes stressed the necessity of getting ourselves vaccinated even at the time of the COVID-19 outbreak.

Dr. Reyes’ lecture was later joined by Mrs. Apple Alvarez, Nursing PhD Candidate of St. Paul University, to delve into a deeper discussion. Also acting as the program head of the drug hotline of Ateneo de Davao University’s special unit, Mrs. Alvarez has been a columnist for the Sunstar Davao newspaper as well.

The below comments are what the participants had to say about the webinar:

“I learned that it is important to get ourselves immunized even at the time of the COVID-19 outbreak. Including the pneumococcal pneumonia, the lecture was very informative in terms of the advantages of vaccines which protect us from preventable diseases while averting the spread of such maladies.”

“I think it is especially important to protect ourselves from diseases that can be avoided by immunization at the time when people are going back to their workplaces under the COVID-19 situation. I came to understand that it enables us to minimize the absence of the employees and keep the productivity afloat in our work place.”

AMDA would like to thank all of the participants, guest speakers, donors, collaborating partners and staff for the success of the five-time webinar series.
