AMDA Haiti conducted it`s annual free dental clinic once again at the Bethel Clinic of the Salvation Army Hospital in Fond-des-Negres, Haiti. A total of 9 members, including the chapter chairperson Dr. Frederic (dentist), from AMDA Haiti successfully conducted the 2 days clinic on the 10
th and 11
th of February. AMDA Haiti has been collaborating with Bethel Clinic to conduct these missions since 2010, yearly, with the support from AMDA Japan.
In total AMDA team provided services to 22 patients on the first day and 47 patients on the second day, totaling 69 people overall. Patients came from countryside such as Aquin, Marseillan, Vieux Bourg d’ Aquin, Lacolline, Virgile, Didier, Lindor, Riviere seche, Pont Roche, Saint Michel, Cardiac as well as Fonds-des-Negres. Dr. Frederic and 5 senior dental students provided free services such as oral examinations, dental clean up, dental restoration and extractions and suitable medication. Prior to the consultation all patients were screened for blood pressure and other “vitals”.
At the beginning of the clinic, Dr. Frederic, explained the purpose of the dental project that AMDA has been doing since 2010. AMDA also conducted various other projects such as, medical missions for Great earthquake and cholera outbreak, `Peace and Unity through Sport` program, prosthesis projects and annual dental programs. Then, senior dental students explained the importance of oral hygiene to the patients and explained the reasons to visiting the dentist at least once every 6 months.
People who traveled from countryside to visit the clinic expressed their gratitude to AMDA. Most people living in the countryside of Haiti believe extraction is the only solution for all kinds of dental problems and are unaware of the various dental treatments and options that are available. Mr. Senecharles Luners, aged of 37, live in Fond-des-Negros, said, he was very happy and hoped the service continues. Mr. Cassamajor Dilor, 19 years old from Marseillan wished we had a permanent clinic in Fond-des-Negres. Similarly many beneficiaries expressed their gratitude for the free dental service that was provided. In general, all beneficiaries were very happy with praise.
