On April 24th, AMDA-USFQ (Universidad San Francisco de Quito) joint relief team headed to Pedernales in Manabi Province located in the coastal region in northwest.
According to AMDA coordinator, Nithian Veeravagu, about 80 to 90 percent of the buildings in the city center have been damaged. As 10 days have passed since the quake struck, in one temporary clinic set up at a local school, the number of patients has been decreasing. However, evacuees are crammed into a small space, hence preventive measures and health/hygiene education for the potential outbreak of infectious diseases are a must.
For now, AMDA coordinator, Nithian Veeravagu, may once return to Quito for the procurement of relief supplies.
