AMDA Emergency Relief Bulletin #1: Earthquake in Central Mexico

Central Mexico was hit by a massive earthquake with a magnitude 7.1 on 19th September around 1:14 pm local time. On 20th September in the midnight, National Civil Protection reports that 226 people were killed in five states.

 According to the local cooperator, they felt the strong jolt at the time the quake hit in the Mexico City which is 120 km away from the epicenter . Even about 6 hours after the earthquake, there is a blackout in a wide range of Mexico City.

After hearing the news, AMDA headquarter decided to dispatch a nurse to the affected area to continue the emergency relief activity in Mexico. The nurse will leave Okayama on 21st September afternoon in Japan time.

 Immediately after the massive earthquake with a magnitude of 8.1 hit Mexico on 7th September and AMDA team provided medical services and donated food product to the affected people in Oaxaca State, which was mostly damaged, from 13th to 15th September.

AMDA team is planning to do joint relief activities with our local cooperator, staff from Tenrikyo’s Branch office in Mexico who supported last relief activities.
