Flashflood Disaster in Bima, West Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia 1

Cyclone Yvette in the Indian Ocean caused hours of heavy rainfall on the 21st and 23rd of December. The downpour caused a flashflood that swept through most of the West Nusa Tenggara (NTB). According to the NTB Disaster Mitigation Agency, the flood had inundated 33 sub districts that are home to more than 100,000 people.

According to “The Jakarta Post” these flash floods hit Bima Municipality and Bima Regency on Wednesday 21st and forced score of residents into many temporary shelters and also have paralyzed economic activity in the region. As the floods have started to recede, some residents have left the evacuation shelters as early as Saturday. There has been no death reported during this calamity.
Acting on the dire situation in the region AMDA Indonesia has decided to dispatch 2 doctors, a medical student assistant and a journalist to the affected area. The team will left Makassar today (27th Dec.) local time at 12:30.
