This is the 2^nd ASMP to be held in Sri Lanka, first being in 2004 after the Pacific Tsunami disaster. T his year, not only marks the 70^th anniversary of the end of World War II but also marks 63^rd anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relationship between Sri Lanka and Japan. First part of the GPSP-SMP was tree plantation ceremony. There were about 20 fruit trees were planted. Two visiting Japanese monks, Sri Lankan priests from different religions of faith, Lions club members, Sarvodaya members and students from local schools planted trees in the garden located at the premises of Sarvodaya head quaters. The second part of the ceremony started with the opening remarks from Dr. Vinya Ariyaratne, Secretary General of Sarvodaya followed by special prayers by Sri Lankan priests from Buddhist, Hindu, Christian and Islam religion of faith. A message from AMDA International president, Dr. Shigeru Suganami, was read and in his message Dr. Suganami expressed the importance of acting together under the spirit of SOGO-FUJO to realize sustainable peace for all citizens of the world. Then, the visiting two Japanese Buddhist monks from Okayama “Kurozumi Kyo” conducted a special prayer for world peace. The monks made a special sermon for the souls of people who dies during the civil war in Sri Lanka. After the special prayer, Dr. Ariyaratne, founder of Sarvodaya made a special speech for the future generation on sustainable world peace and importance of maintaining a healthy environment around us. Dr. Sarath Samarage, president of AMDA Sri Lanka, delivered final and closing remarks.
About 150 people took part in this ceremony in total and about half of them were students from local schools. The ceremony lasted about 3 hours and the participants really appreciated such a great ceremony for world peace. Dr. Ariyaratne also handed over an appreciation plaque for the visiting Japanese Clergies.
