On 31 October 2023, AMDA president Dr. Shigeru Suganami received the Prasiddha Prawal Janasewashree award from the Government of Nepal. The award is of the highest level conferred on foreign nationals who have contributed to the development of the nation. 

AMDA was particularly recognized for its commitment to the establishment of Siddhartha Children and Women Hospital in Butwal, Lumbini, a medical facility run by AMDA Nepal that specializes in maternal and child healthcare. Since its opening in 1998 with a lot of support from Japan, the hospital has provided quality medical services to mothers and children in the region.

At the award ceremony held at the Ministry of Home Affairs, Dr. Suganami gave the following comment:

“Siddhartha Children and Women Hospital could not have been what it is today without the dedication of AMDA Nepal, the staff members of the hospital, the local people, and most importantly, those who have supported AMDA over the years. On this momentous occasion, I would like to express my deepest gratitude to all of you that have rendered support.”
