In recent years, AMDA has been providing educational support to a free boarding school in Bodhgaya, India. The school is run by Jeanamitabh, a local NGO dedicated to uplifting the lives of children from impoverished communities.

In August 2022, AMDA distributed school textbooks to its 111 students (out of 144 students). In addition, a set of stationery was provided to every student learning at the school. Moreover, sanitary napkins, first aid medicine, as well as office supplies were donated on this occasion.

In November of the same year, AMDA President Dr. Shigeru Suganami paid a visit to the school during his tour in India. The students and school staff welcomed him with bouquets and traditional Indian ornaments, whose flowers were grown by themselves.

His visit coincided with the birthday of Jawaharlal Nehru, the first prime minister of India, which is designated as a national day of celebration. Also known as “Children’s Day,” Indian students get together to give musical performances and academic presentations on this very day.

Dr. Suganami also handed new school uniforms to 45 students who were unable to afford them. “I am very happy to receive the new uniform since my old one got worn out,” one of the students said.

After the donation ceremony was over, an exchange meeting was held for both students and Dr. Suganami. Asked what their dreams were, the students expressed their hopes of becoming doctors and school teachers in the future, with some revealing their wishes to study abroad.

As the day came to a close, they planted a jackfruit tree and a jamun tree in the schoolyard to commemorate the event. Jamun is locally treasured as “a divine fruit” for its abundant health benefits, and is only available during the monsoon season.

The school has been growing many beautiful flowers and fruit trees as part of its efforts to enrich the greenery of the local community.
