COVID-19 Outbreak: AMDA Peace Clinic Food Donation in Bodhgaya, India 8

Publication date:2020-10-28

Pregnant Women Receiving Food Aid

Having been through two lockdowns since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, AMDA Peace Clinic in Bodhgaya, India, has yet to cease its services to patients, particularly of those who are the target beneficiaries of its maternal and infant health programs which were launched in 2014. The clinic, often abbreviated to APC, has currently been run by three staff.

APC recently conducted interviews with its patients to grasp how the lives of women during and after pregnancy have changed in the last five months ever since the clinic started a series of food donation drive.

As a result, the surveys revealed that the reality remains harsh in which 35% of the households have no source of income, while a loss of income by 25% seemed to be average for those that did manage to return to work. In light of such circumstances, APC has decided to continue the food assistance for the time being.

The food distribution has already become a routine occurrence in which around 60 families of APC’s pregnant women come to receive the food goods *every Tuesday. The clinic also provides foodstuffs to a nursing home run by its former staff. (*The food donation on 27 October was not conducted as it was a festival holiday in Bodhgaya.)

Now, people gather and make a line for the food distribution without prior notice. Because of APC’s coherent assistance, more pregnant women have recently been showing up to the clinic for the patient registration. It is fair to say that the food aid is definitely getting a favourable response.
