COVID-19 outbreak: AMDA Philippines’ Activities 5 - Donating PPE to Medical Facilities
Publication date:2020-06-15
Donating PPE to medical facilities:
In April, AMDA Philippines donated goods including PPE such as face masks and face shields, as well as *aerosol boxes and toilet goods to its relevant medical facilities. As of now, all of the items are in short supply around the Philippines.
The facilities that received the items said they would like to use them for their medical staff who are working on the front line, battling the COVID-19 crisis. Showing their gratitude, they said once the pandemic gets contained, it is their turn to support AMDA.
One item that is worth mentioning is the face shield. All 400 units were handmade, with the help of local children and residents who live nearby one of AMDA doctors. The completed shields were sent to each medical facility along with other items.
Comments from the children who helped making the face shields:
“For the Frontliners “
“To Avoid spread of COVID-19”
“Because we are in home quarantine, this is our way to helap!“
“Even we are just kids, we can help”
*Amidst the lack of PPE, an aerosol box (an acrylic box) is used to protect medical practitioners from aerosol particles that are scattered at the time of intubation.
