In response to the eruption of Taal Volcano in the Philippines, AMDA will be sending one coordinator from Japan on January 16th.

Taal Volcano in Batangas province (located approximately 70km south of Mania) erupted on the afternoon of Monday 12th, affecting extensive areas including its nearby provinces, Cavite and Laguna.

On the 15th, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said ashes from the eruption have affected a total of 12,486 households (53,019 people), of which 10,000 households (43,681 people) are currently seeking shelter in 217 evacuation centers.

Until now, 466 volcanic earthquakes have been recorded, causing power interruptions in the said provinces.

After arriving in Manila on the evening of the 16th, the AMDA coordinator will discuss further relief work with AMDA Philippines and local partners while assessing the situation and needs on the ground.
