Reported by Dr. Mac Keven Frederic (AMDA Haiti Chairperson)
On March 23, 2019, AMDA Haiti organized the 9th Dental Project at Bethel Clinic run by the local Salvation Army in Fonds-des-Nègres, Haiti.
Thanks to the clinic, it provided a patient consultation room and a waiting area, along with supplies such as curtains, brooms, garbage separator and tables. As for dental equipment, AMDA Haiti Chairperson Dr. Mac Keven Frederic brought in some of his own tools and materials.
53 patients came to receive the treatment from Fonds-des-Negres as well as rural areas such as Aquin, Vieux Bourg d’ Aquin, Marseillan, Cadiac, Saint Michel, Pemele, Saint Louis Du Sud, Cavaillon, Lacolline, Butete, Demusette, and Riviere Seche. From 7AM to 5PM, the team conducted oral examination, dental checkup, dental cleanup as well as dental restoration, extractions and dental education throughout the day.
Dr. Frederic also explained the principles of AMDA Headquarters and highlighted the significance of AMDA in Haiti. He talked about the activities which AMDA has done in the country since 2010 including projects related to cholera, sport, prosthetics and oral care.
In particular, he touched on a counter-cholera effort (December 2010-February 2011) and the disaster response for 2016 hurricane that struck the nation, reiterating that AMDA Haiti has been flexible at working in different parts of the country such as Jeremie, Marfranc and Moron.
