AMDA Emergency Response #1 – West Japan Torrential Rain
Publication date:2018-07-07
In response to the torrential down pours in western and central Japan since 6 July, AMDA has dispatched a relief team to Soja City in Okayama, not far from AMDA Headquarters. The heavy rain has affected wide areas of the country’s west and central regions where floods and landslides have been occurring. In some places, residents are still waiting to be rescued in stranded homes.
So far, AMDA has sent a team of coordinators, a doctor, nurses and pharmacists to Soja City to work in Kibi Arena, one of the evacuation centers in the city. Soja City Government has been AMDA’s close partner in the realm of humanitarian assistance since both parties formed a partnership agreement on emergency relief in 2009.
Based on the assessment on the ground, AMDA is considering the dispatch of extra medical personnel in the earliest possible time.
