AMDA Emergency Relief #3: Typhoon Fung-wong, Philippines

Publication date:2025-11-26

On 18 November, AMDA's relief team conducted item distribution efforts at the municipalities of Pandan and Caramoran in the Philippines’ northern Catanduanes region, which were devastated by the super typhoon “Fung-wong.”

The response activities were carried out in collaboration with the Asian Center of Excellence in Development and Security (ACEDS), the Philippine Nurses Association (PNA) Catanduanes Chapter, and the Knights of Columbus.

Mainly targeting residents whose houses were either partially or fully destroyed, relief supplies, including foodstuffs, laundry detergent, and buckets, were delivered to two districts in Caramoran and three districts in Pandan.

Since most of the communities they assisted were fishing villages along the coast, the storm and high tides affected the lives of those in the fishery sector, sweeping away their vessels.

Although many of the houses were severely damaged, some residents seemed resilient enough to start repairing them immediately.

Meanwhile, a street fundraiser for the typhoon emergency response was organized in Okayama, Japan, home to AMDA’s Japanese Headquarters. AMDA's staff, its volunteers, as well as the members of AMDA's student body and Okayama Kurashiki Pilipino Circle took part in the effort to ask for donations.

Concluding the relief work, AMDA's Japanese team left the Philippines on 20 November, after reporting activities to its affiliates in Manila.

According to the Philippines’ disaster response authority NDRRMC, 26 people were killed, 47 people were injured, and two people have been missing due to this calamity. The affected population has topped 6.89 million (over 1.95 million households) as of 17 November.

Although the mission has been completed, AMDA will keep monitoring the local situation.
