In response to the super typhoon “Fung-wong” which devastated the Bicol region in the Philippines between 8 and 9 November, AMDA has sent two aid workers from Japan to launch emergency relief efforts.
According to the Philippines’ disaster response authority NDRRMC, 25 people were killed, 30 people were injured, and two people have been missing. The affected population has topped 4.67 million people (over 1.33 million households) as of 13 November.
AMDA’s aid workers (one nurse and one coordinator) are expected to arrive in Manila on 15 November to meet local contacts and arrange further relief activities. The team will move to Catanduanes, an island in Bicol, the following day for more practical coordination and preparation for the upcoming relief work.
In Cataduanes, the team will be collaborating with local partners including the Philippine Nurses Association (PNA) Catanduanes Chapter that has worked with AMDA on different occasions.
