AMDA Damak Hospital (Nepal) to launch CT scanning services

Publication date:2025-11-04

In September 2025, AMDA Damak Hospital in Nepal launched CT scanning services after it introduced a Canon Aquilion Lightning 160 Slice CT Scanner. The hospital became the second medical facility equipped with a cutting-edge medical scanner in eastern Nepal, following B.P. Koirala Institute of Health Sciences (BPKIHS), the largest hospital in the region with a 1,000-bed capacity.

Having been an NGO-run facility, AMDA Damak Hospital has been offering medical services at reasonable costs, even for those who are not well-off. Naturally, the hospital’s CT scanning services have been available 10-20 percent cheaper than other private medical facilities in the area, making them accessible for low- and middle-class patients.

Patients facing serious financial problems are entitled to receive CT imaging services at no cost or at a reduced fee, once they are deemed eligible by the hospital’s social welfare department.

The installation of the new equipment has benefited the local community, as patients no longer need to travel to distant locations for a CT scan. It has also enabled fast and precise diagnoses of cancer, abdominal problems, stroke, and external injuries, leading to the early start of treatment.

The CT scanning services have allowed the hospital to win the trust of both patients and medical institutions in other areas, which can be seen in a recent increase in patient referrals.

Many of the local patients have been appreciative of the services which weren’t available previously.

AMDA will continue to support medical facilities run by AMDA Nepal, its Nepalese chapter.
