
On 12 October, AMDA dispatched two nurses and one coordinator from Japan to the Philippines in response to earthquakes that struck the nation’s Cebu and Mindanao regions in the last couple of weeks. The details are as follows:
1) Cebu:
On the evening of 30 September, a magnitude 6.9 earthquake struck Cebu, affecting more than 720,000 people (over 200,000 households). According to the Philippines' disaster response authorities NDRRMC, 74 people were killed and 559 people were injured (as of 11 October). Buildings have been severely destroyed or damaged by the quake.
2) Mindanao:

On the morning of 10 October, a magnitude 7.4 quake struck Mindanao, followed by another quake in the evening. The tremors affected more than 90,000 people (over 70,000 households) in total. NDRRMC said 8 people were killed and 146 people were injured (as of 11 October). Frequent aftershocks have been reportedly occurring.
On 13 October, AMDA's Japanese aid workers arrived in Davao, the capital of Mindanao, to join the AMDA Philippines team and AMDA’s local partners. They will start coordinating relief activities in affected areas.
