In response to the severe flooding that struck Pakistan in August, the Hamdard Foundation, AMDA’s longstanding local partner, carried out food distribution efforts in the country’s northwestern region.
On 9 September, Hamdard’s relief team headed to Biner District in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province with a truckload of food supplies. The aid included 800 bags of food items, some of which were donated by AMDA.
The food distribution was organized in four locations: Kot Bar Gokand, Kuz Gokand, Chagharzai, and Bishunai Pir Bapa, most of which were situated in remote mountainous areas.
The bad road conditions made it quite challenging for the team to access these sites. For this reason, four-wheel drive vehicles were used to reach some of the destinations.
On one hand, the aid work itself was conducted in a highly organized manner, thanks to excellent coordination work prior to the team’s deployment.
Through local authorities in affected areas, Hamdard had earlier provided each victim with a card to create a corresponding list of relief goods for each location. By doing so, the list enabled the aid workers to exactly know “who gets what” on the ground.
Before handing out the relief supplies, a message of condolences to the victims, written by Hamdard President Sadia Rashid, was read out to show solidarity.
Although the relief efforts continued well into the night, the mission concluded successfully with the full support of local municipalities and dignitaries.
