AMDA Peace Clinic Activity Report (April – June 2025)

Publication date:2025-08-18

Established in 2009, AMDA Peace Clinic (APC) in Bodhgaya, India, has been running health-related services for mothers and infants since 2014.

Up until now, the clinic has served more than 600 pregnant women by offering: 1) biweekly maternal health checkups, and 2) a weekly maternity class on health and nutrition. Furthermore, the clinic is subsidizing part of ultrasound fees for expectant mothers.

In a recent activity report, Bunty Metha, an APC staffer, shared a story of Mrs. Kumari, who gave birth to her daughter in June.

“One night in early June, Mrs. Kumari’s husband contacted us that her water had been broken while her due date was approaching. She was 10-month pregnant. Contacting our obstetrician in charge, the family visited her clinic immediately. As with her last pregnancy, it was expected that the delivery would be a Caesarean section.

“Mrs. Kumari eventually gave birth to a healthy baby girl. However, excessive bleeding during the delivery suddenly put the mother’s condition at risk, requiring an emergency operation and an urgent blood transfusion.

“Because it wasn’t easy to find someone with her blood type, we, as staff members at APC, made every effort to find a suitable donor. Contacting everyone from friends to acquaintances finally succeeded, allowing Mrs. Kumari to receive the blood transfusion. the mother and the baby were safely discharged from the clinic after a few days.”

About a month from the delivery, Mrs. Kumari gave the following comment:

“Today, Bunty from APC visited our house to see how we were doing. We are happy to report that both my baby and I have been well. While I was pregnant, the clinic supported us and treated us like a family.

“Around my due date, I was really scared that night when my water suddenly broke. My husband contacted APC immediately, even though we were concerned about the medical bills we would need to pay. However, we were told not to worry about it and that we should go to see APC’s obstetrician as soon as possible. On our way to her clinic, one of the staff members accompanied us on my mother’s behalf, who could only show up the next morning.

“After my delivery, I needed an urgent blood transfusion. It wasn’t easy to find someone with the same blood type as mine. However, everyone at APC tried their best to look for someone suitable. Without their prompt response, I couldn’t have recovered so smoothly.

“I am truly grateful for the support I have received from APC. They have each given me and my baby a new life. May God bless them with their health and happiness.”
