In response to extensive flooding in the Philippines’ Luzon region, AMDA will be launching emergency relief. Some areas, including Manila, have been inundated due to combined effects of Southwest Monsoon and tropical storms that lasted for a week.
AMDA Philippines chairperson Dr. Erica Tania Davillo, who visited an evacuation center in the city of Valenzuela in Metro Manila, gave the following account:
“Hundreds of families have been displaced, and the growing number of evacuees urgently need medical support. There is a critical shortage of essential medicines, particularly antibiotics for flood-related infections, as well as general medical supplies to prevent outbreaks and address the health needs of children, the elderly, and the vulnerable populations currently in evacuation centers.”
Currently, preparation for the aid work has been underway by AMDA Philippines.
According to local disaster authorities NDRRMC as of 24 July, 12 people were killed, 8 people have been injured, and 8 people have been missing. The affected population has topped 2.7 million people (750,000 households), while road and bridge blockades have been observed in some areas.
