AMDA Peace Clinic Activity Report (December 2024 - March 2025)

Publication date:2025-05-28

It has been over 10 years since AMDA Peace Clinic (APC) in Bodhgaya, India, launched health programs for pregnant women, mothers, and infants in 2014. The pillar activities of the project have been: 1) prenatal and postpartum checkups, and 2) maternity education and nutrition workshops for mothers-to-be.

This article features a story of a woman who was looked after by APC during her prenatal and postpartum periods.

Ms. M.D, a regular visitor to APC, gave birth to her two children at a local hospital. During her pregnancies, she benefitted from the support APC offered especially since both labours were performed via C-section. She reflected on her experience and how APC helped her cope with what she had to go through:

“During my pregnancies, the only place I could rely on was APC. Thanks to their support, I was able to give birth to my first son safely by Caesarean. However, little did I know that another huge task would await me in due course. Just before he turned 10 months old, I became pregnant again.

This time, it was very difficult. Since it was soon after my first labour, my body wasn’t fully ready yet. I could still remember clearly the pain I had experienced and the fear of repeating it, which was deeply daunting.

As it turned out, I had to undergo an early Caesarean delivery at eight months of pregnancy due to severe complications.

I gave birth to my second son at a local private hospital just as before.  However, because his condition was unstable, he was kept in an incubator for 10 days, which cost me a lot both financially and mentally. Even during such a challenging situation, APC always stood by my side, offering me advice whenever I needed it. They also provided me with new underwear and clothing for my baby which was made of towel fabric.

Not only did APC offered me medical support, but they gave me the strength to become a mother again. I am truly grateful for their assistance.”

A staff member at APC commented: “There are difficult times for anyone expecting a baby. But please remember that pregnant women are not alone and that we are here to support them. Even when they feel hopeless, we are ready to give as much help as we can. “
