From 11 to 16 March 2025, AMDA organized emergency-response activities for the wildfire victims in northern Japan’s Iwate Prefecture. The relief work was conducted in two stages, both of which consisted of supply distribution.
On the morning of 11 March, AMDA dispatched one coordinator to Ofunato City where a massive wildfire broke out on 26 February. Although it had already been contained, over 100 houses were affected by the extensive fire and as many as 2,000 people had been forced to evacuate. By working closely with local partners and authorities, the first batch of relief goods (daily necessities such as tissue paper and tooth brush) were successfully delivered to those affected by the disaster on the following day.
On 16 March, the second batch of items including 1,000 pairs of T-shirts and 300 bath towels which AMDA shipped arrived at Ofunato’s disaster response authorities. Since then, they are now stocked at the local emergency-response hub for further distribution.
According to the city officials, a total of 193 people have been taking refuge at two evacuation shelters and the homes of their relatives as of 15 March. As the post-disaster reconstruction will start in full swing, they said the T-shirts and towels would be a lot of help for those taking part in it.

Even though the mission has been completed, AMDA will keep an eye on the local situation for now.
