On the morning of 8 January, AMDA dispatched the third relief team to Wajima, Ishikawa Prefecture, which was devastated by the magnitude 7.6 quake that struck the Noto peninsula on Japan’s western coast. The third team includes Dr. Takushi Sato who was recently appointed as the new head of AMDA Japan.
They are expected to join the advance team on 9 January, after procuring relief supplies in the city of Takaoka in Toyama Prefecture (located next to Ishikawa).
As of now, the advance team has been engaged in relief work at one of the evacuation centers in Wajima. Besides medical assistance, the zoning within the facility as well as the implementation of precautionary measures have been some of the things they have carried out. Likewise, part of the team has been stationed at the Wajima city office for coordination work.
AMDA will also be sending additional aid workers (one doctor and one coordinator) on 9 January to the disaster site.
