        Between 15 and 20 May 2023, two AMDA staff members visited Hungary to discuss further assistance for Ukrainian evacuees with its four local counterparts active in both Hungary and Ukraine. AMDA has extended a helping hand to those who sought refuge immediately after the outset of the crisis, sending 14 relief personnel in total for the relief work.

          Ever since the crisis struck Ukraine, AMDA has sent 14 aid workers to neighbouring Hungary from March to October 2022 to help Ukrainian evacuees that fled war zones. During that time, the staff members comprising five doctors, six nurses, and three coordinators engaged in aid work. It included medical relief activities, as well as the provision of food items, medical supplies, and other necessities.

              Since September, AMDA’s Japanese nurse has been working at a help center for Ukrainian evacuees in Beregsurany, a Hungarian village on the border with Ukraine. Also serving as a coordinator, she was sent to Hungary as AMDA’s 10th batch of relief personnel.

              The nurse has been mainly checking the health condition of the evacuees, while referring patients that need proper medical attention to local partner organizations. They include the Order of Malta that manages the entire center,

                On 8 September, a Japanese coordinator/nurse from AMDA Headquarters began her work at a help centre for Ukrainian evacuees in Beregsurany, a Hungarian village located on the border with Ukraine. It marked AMDA’s 10th dispatch of aid workers since this humanitarian relief started. The coordinator joined the preceding team, which had already been engaged in the work at the facility.

                  After arriving in Budapest, Hungary, on 18 August, an AMDA nurse headed to Beregsurany (a village on the border with Ukraine) on the 20th to take part in the ongoing aid work. This marked the 9th dispatch of relief personnel from Japan. 

                  The nurse joined the preceding team at a local help center for Ukrainian evacuees, and has been engaged in maintaining the health condition of those taking shelter there. Likewise, the team has been caring for the facility staff who have supported the evacuees around the clock.

                      At a help center set up for Ukrainian evacuees in Hungary’s Beregsurany village, the number of those arriving from war zones has been gradually increasing since late July. The AMDA team (one nurse and one coordinator) has been preparing food and drinks while maintaining the facility environment with the center’s staff.
