    St. Michael’s Center for Medical and Social Rehabilitation of Children (hereafter referred to as St. Michael’s) is one of AMDA’s Ukrainian counterparts, based in the Transcarpathia region of western Ukraine.

    St. Michael’s is known to accept children with Down syndrome, autism, scoliosis, as well as those with physical, psychological, and intellectual disabilities. The center offers a wide range of rehabilitation programs designed to enhance the social participation of such children by promoting their physical and mental growth. The programs include

        The City of Goodness, an aid organization based in western Ukraine, is accommodating evacuees from the nation’s eastern front. The evacuees include families whose children have special medical needs.

        Currently, 60 of these children are under the care of the Butterfly House, a children’s hospice run by the organization. However, the facility has stopped accepting new patients as there are no vacancies available for now.

          Activity Report (February – May 2025): MedSpot (Hungary)

           

          MedSpot, a Hungarian medical aid organization, has been one of AMDA’s early partners in the ongoing Ukraine humanitarian response for the past three years.
           
          MedSpot has been organizing mobile clinic activities in western Ukraine’s Zakarpattia Oblast since November 2022. During the monthly mobile clinic, MedSpot’s medical team visits four evacuation centers in two days, seeing approximately 100 to 120 patients per round. Based on the doctors’ assessment, prescription drugs and counselling sessions are also provided for those who require them. AMDA

              Located in proximity to the Romanian border in western Ukraine, the City of Goodness is a medical organization that accommodates women and children fleeing war zones in the country’s eastern regions. AMDA has been extending support to the organization since August 2024.

              Prior to the 2022 Ukraine humanitarian crisis, the City of Goodness was working to provide shelter for those who were escaping domestic violence or those without homes due to poverty. It wasn’t until the crisis occurred that it started accepting evacuees from the east.

                    Since August 2024, AMDA has been providing support to the City of Goodness, a Ukrainian medical charity active in western Ukraine bordering Romania.

                    The City of Goodness has been helping women and children who have evacuated from the eastern part of the country, which is close to war zones.                                               Responding to the extreme summer heat

                                              As part of countermeasures to prevent heat stroke, AMDA’s relief team (one nurse and one coordinator) has been providing bottled water at the help center for Ukrainian evacuees in Beregsurany, Hungary. 

                                              The region, which lies in the eastern part of the country, has been experiencing exceptionally hot summer this year with the highest temperature reaching 38 degrees Celsius. It is said the temperature usually stays around 27 even at the hottest time of the year.

                                                    On 2 June, a nurse from *AMDA-TICO arrived in Budapest, Hungary, from Japan for the ongoing aid work. This marks its sixth dispatch of relief personnel to support those who fled war-torn Ukraine.

                                                    After meeting with the students from local Semmelweis University who had supported this relief effort, the nurse headed to the border area to join her colleague, a Japanese male nurse who had been working at the site for some time.

So far, ailments such as stress-related stomachache and digestive problems, as well as common cold are commonly seen among patients.                                                                                   On the evening of 23 March, a Ukrainian man arrived at the Hungarian village of Beregsurany where *AMDA-TICO had been providing medical assistance at its suport center for the evacuees. It was learned that it took him about one month to flee to the other side of the border.
                                                                                   
                                                                                  As the man seemed to have been troubled by hypertension-related symptoms, he was immediately seen by a Hungarian doctor at the center’s medical outpost. The diagnosis revealed that much of his condition was stemming from the war-induced stress. The doctor decided to prescribe him with medicine and see if his condition would improve in the days to come.

                                                                                                On the evening of 10 March (local time), AMDA’s second relief team from Japan arrived in Budapest, Hungary, to join the preceding team. The latter had already conducted an assessment regarding the situation surrounding Ukrainian evacuees at border towns, Lonya and Kisvarda, on 8 and 9 March respectively.

                                                                                                  On 08 March (local time), AMDA’s first relief team headed to Lonya, a Hungarian border town which is located 300 kilometres from Budapest, to assess the situation surrounding Ukrainian evacuees.

                                                                                                  Although the town was small with a population of around 700 residents, many people were arriving from the other side of the border to take refuge. It was confirmed that several aid organizations were already there to provide aid with sufficient relief supplies in place. The team will move onto the next town for further assessment.

                                                                                                    On the afternoon of 7 March, AMDA’s Japanese doctor arrived in Budapest, Hungary, for aid work in response to the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine. After arrival, the doctor, who currently resides in Holland, was joined by a Japanese medical student now studying at Semmelweis University, a well-established college in the nation. The two immediately started gathering information with regards to the situations surrounding Ukrainian evacuees in major stations and other places in central Budapest.

                                                                                                      In response to the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Ukraine, AMDA will be dispatching a Japanese medical doctor to Hungary to provide aid to Ukrainian refugees.
